Peter F. Neronha sworn in as U.S. Attorney
Chief U.S. District Court Judge Mary M. Lisi today administered the oath of office to Peter F. Neronha as U.S. Attorney for Rhode Island. President Obama today formalized Mr. Neronha’s appointment after the Senate yesterday confirmed his nomination. President Obama nominated Mr. Neronha for U.S. Attorney on the recommendation of Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse.
Mr. Neronha joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office in 2002 as an Assistant U.S. Attorney. He has prosecuted white collar, drug, and firearms offenses, and was most recently the Chief of the District’s Organized Crime Strike Force. For several years he was the District’s coordinator for Project Safe Neighborhoods, a Department of Justice initiative against gun crimes.
Before joining the U.S. Attorney’s office, Mr. Neronha was an Assistant Rhode Island Attorney General and prior to that was in private practice with Goodwin Proctor, LLP, in Boston.
A life-long Rhode Island resident, Mr. Neronha received a J. D. degree from Boston College Law School in 1989 and a B.A. Degree from Boston College in 1985.
